鵲の渡せる橋に置く霜の白きを見れば夜ぞ更けにける

This waka is composed by Chuunagon yakamochi(中納言家持).

His real name is Ohtomono yamamochi(大伴家持).

He is one of the best waka composer because there are the most numbers of waka made by him in Manyo-shu(Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves).

Details

鵲の渡せる橋に置く霜の白きを見れば夜ぞ更けにける

We read this waka like, “Kasasagino wataseruhashini okushimono shirokiwo mireba yozo fukenikeru”.

kasasagi is a bird. He see a bridge in the castle looks like milkey way that was made by kasasagi.

wataseruhashini okushimono shirokiwo mireba represent that he see “that bridge” is covered by frost, and that frost is white.

yozo fukenikeru means it became midnight.

After all this waka means like this.

“There is white frost covers the bridge made by kasasagi. I saw that, I noticed that it was deep in the night.”
