Let’s learn Japanese leisurely.

Well, today you will learn about self introduction in Japanese too.
Let’s begin.

例文 | Example

  1. はじめまして。
  2. 私の名前はらいむーんです。
  3. 出身は東京で、今は千葉に住んでいます。
  4. 趣味は映画鑑賞と言語を学ぶことです。
  5. よろしくお願いします。

解説 | Explanation

Today, I will teach you the 4th sentences.

If you want to learn from the first, please see from here

Sentence 4

Let’s move on the 4th sentence.

You can learn how to say your hobby, what you like to do.

趣味(syumi) means “hobby”.

Now you remember how to say “and” right? “そして” and getting rid of す.
Getting rid of “す” is useful but we can’t use it everywhere.
We can’t connect noun and noun with using “す”.
But “そして” can connect noun and noun.
Now I will introduce easier way to connect noun and noun.

The way is to use “と”.

So now we’re in the 4th sentence and we can understand the meaning of “趣味は~と…です。”.

In English, “My hobby is ~ and ….”.
I will introduce some of (I think) popular hobbies.

Hobbies list

  • スポーツ : sports
    • サッカー : soccer
    • 野球(yakyuu) : baseball
    • テニス : tennis
    • バスケットボール : basketball
    • 水泳(suiei) : swimming
    • スキー :sking
  • ゲーム : (video) games
  • 映画鑑賞(eiga kansyou) : watching movies
  • 音楽鑑賞 (ongaku kansyou) : listening to musics
  • 釣(tsu)り : fishing
  • 旅行(ryokou) : traveling
  • 読書(dokusyo) : reading books
  • 演奏(ensou) : playing instruments
  • けん玉 (dama) : Japanese bilboquet
  • 数独(suudoku) : Sudoku
  • クロスワードパズル : crossword puzzle
  • 料理 (ryouri) : cooking
  • おかし作(duku)り : making sweets
  • ペットの世話(sewa) : looking after pets
  • 乗馬(jouba) : horse riding
  • ヨット : sailboat
  • 言語(gengo)を学(mana)ぶこと : learning languages
  • テレビをみること : watching TV
  • お笑(wara)いライブに行くこと : going to comedy live
  • 写真(syashin)を撮(to)ること : taking photos
  • 記事(kiji)を書(ka)くこと : writing articles

If you have one or several hobbies in that list, you can make your sentence so easily.

All you have to do is putting them into the form “趣味は~と…です”.
For example ”趣味は乗馬とヨットです”. (It sounds like so rich person haha)

Now you understand how to say hobbies.

And I am actually using that structure in the About Page. Check it out~!
